Supernatural - "Devil's Bargain" - Season 13 - Episode 13 Review

Every season, somewhere around the mid season break, I am left questioning if this will be the season the show lets me down. It’s quite hard to come up with new and interesting storylines for each season that will keep longtime viewers not only engaged, but excited. I am happy to say, I have yet to be let down. And this season is no different.

I really like the idea of the Angels going dark, falling in succession. We have seen the Winchesters battle Lucifer in the past, but not quite like this. This time, there seems to be so much more at stake. Not only are they still needing to get to Jack before Lucifer can, they need to get to their mom as well. I’m not sure they really understand what all will be standing in their way to make that possible either. Other reality Michael is pretty angry! Even Lucifer knows he’s going to be a major pain in the ass. We never got to see all of the time he spent with Michael while he was in the other world. And judging by the state we see he had Mary in, we know he likes to draw things out. So it should be quite the battle of the minds when they all go head to head.

I must say, it’s quite fun to see one of the actors working side by side with their wife. In this episode we got to see Anael, played by Danneel Ackles. It was nice to see her in that role, I think she really owned it. She sells Anael’s badass, unappreciated angel vibe very well. It’s always nice to see Lucifer’s sensitive side, and Anael brought that out as well. I have to admit, I really like them as a team. I feel disloyal for liking them, but they work well together. I mean, did you see how easy it was for them to break free from the guys? Not only that, but it didn’t take them long to take over Heaven either. Ask and you shall receive, right?

I can only wonder if any of the angels will try to double cross them once they get their wings. It wouldn’t really surprise me if Anael is the one to do that. I mean, she is quite like Lucifer, and that’s what he would do. She’s a really great manipulator. I couldn’t help but notice that she seemed hurt when she found out Lucifer was the one who has drained, then killed Cupid and the others. It leaves me wondering, did she have a personal connection with those angels? Maybe even just one? It would make sense that she would want to get close to Lucifer to get revenge if that’s the case. I could be wrong, she could just be in it for her own personal gain. Or worse, she may really like Lucifer.

The most shocking of all from this episode wasn’t the fact that Ketch was honest with the guys. Nor was it the guys being saved by Ketch. No, the most shocking to me was seeing that Mr.Colonel Sanders creepy demon dude, has a pet. And not a hellhound like most guys of his type. Nope, he had to one up all the creeps we have met and have an Archangel!!! What the what!!! Archangel Gabriel was bound and beaten, mouth sewn shut in his own personal prison! That was not something I expected. I don’t think Ketch expected it either. So now we know Asmodeus has just what he needs to defeat Lucifer, even with him at full power. I would say that’s a good thing, but he creeps me out way more than Lucifer ever has. I hope Ketch is able to get the Archangel sword away from him, and quickly. And let’s hope Gabriel gets released before he’s forced into being a pawn in the epic battle brewing.

I have to say, I thought the Darkness was intense. But, something is telling me this battle that’s coming is going to be way, way, worse. I hope we aren’t going to be left with a clinghanger, though I’m sure we will be. And I hope Jack has a plan, because the guys are really going to need it!

The Path- "Messiah" - Season 3 Episode 6 Review

As someone who has never been ‘Team Cal’ I have to say, they are really starting to try to make him likeable. It’s quite annoying if I am being completely honest. I found myself getting frustrated at the fact that there was a character who actually makes Cal look sane. Harold is beyond crazy. I was not surprised even for one moment that Harold came back for the rings Mary had stolen. It was also not a surprise to me to see Harold completely lose his cool in the process of getting them back either. Cal is lucky to have had Vera is his back pocket to be able to clear that up. Unfortunately for Cal, he used his only favor up in doing so. I don’t think he caught on to her confessing that Steve was her father. But I am glad she dropped the hint. It’s clear she isn't trusting her mom much anymore. I’m not sure if Lilith has caught on to that yet.

While on the topic of catching on, I can’t believe Cal has no idea what is in store for him as far as Mary goes. He truly picked his equal when he started hooking up with her. Now he’s married to this crazy and one kid deep. It’s been proven time and time again that she is just as dark and twisted as he is. Now it’s been solidified in this episode. I understand Mary needing to feel secure in the life she has now. She had a very messed up past. Her own father had been pimping her out prior to her meeting Cal. That will make anyone not trust those closest to them. So it wasn’t surprising to me to see her go back to tie up the loose ends she had left with her father. I was just surprised she was stupid enough to leave the needle she used to inject his fatal dose behind. And she was also careless enough not to notice the witness. I honestly can’t wait to see this blow up. It should be interesting to see Cal eat some humble pie. He thinks he is so in control, but really, he has no control and things are going to crumble.

And I can’t be the only one who can’t stand this sudden change in Eddie, can I? I mean seriously, who the heck is this guy? He went from being so strong willed and such an independent thinker, to a sheep leading the flock. It’s sad to watch. He seems to be so obsessed with Meyerism he can’t see past the need to draw people to the light. I wish he could see all the signs around him. Clearly Sara is finally breaking down, which she was honest to him about, finally. But he’s still so blinded by his love for this God-awful woman that I’m sure he’s going to take her back. But I really hope he doesn’t. My guess, Vera won’t let it happen.

I was very sad to see one of my favorites, Hank, unexpectedly pass away. He was one of the most level headed of all the older Meyerists. And I loved how loyal he was to his morals, regardless of where they may put him in regards to the movement. His family always came first, including Eddie. Quite frankly he was Eddie’s strongest ally. I can’t imagine who Eddie will be able to lean on now. I would say Hawk, but, he’s pretty preoccupied at the moment. At least Hawk was spared the awkward pressure of feeling he needed to talk to his cousin about his new relationship with Caleb. I still can’t believe that is happening. I wonder how long it will take for that to come out into the open? No pun intended.

I think there are going to be a lot of butting heads in the coming episodes. It was pretty apparent at Hank’s gathering that everyone is on their own page. I don’t think the strain is going to end with with Armstrong/Lane clans though. It’s only a matter of time before Sara talks to Eddie more in depth about what she had been researching. He will eventually be lead to Lilith, and I kinda think that is what she’s waiting for. Something about this woman is just bad new bears, and I really hope I’m wrong. But she seems very very, dark. She claims Steve was the one with the darkness and being with him was her worst mistake, but what if it was his as well? I really can’t wait to learn more about her true history with him. I really hope we get to. I hope Vera can learn some unbiased truth as well. It seems this poor woman has been brainwashed by her mom her entire life. It makes you wonder what kind of childhood she had. Let’s hope we get to find out more about that in the coming episodes as well!

The X-Files - "Kitten" - Season 11 Episode 6 Review

I liked seeing a glimpse into the of history Skinner in this episode. It was interesting to see his first exposure to what would be considered an X-file. It isn’t surprising at all to see that Skinner would once again put himself at risk because of a personal connection. I was sad to see that in all the trauma Skinner experienced during his time in Vietnam it seemed the worst was because of his best friend. What wasn’t surprising to me was to see that said friend was driven to insanity by an experimental war gas.

We have spoken before on the show about some of the conspiracies our government may be behind. One of the main themes of these conspiracies seems to be mind control. It would make sense that if the government wanted to perfect such a thing it would be best tested in a warzone. It is a little easier for them to justify experimenting on our enemies than our own citizens I’m sure. And as government property, soldiers who have been caught in the crossfire are then easily controlled.

Having been such a young age when Skinner enlisted, it was easy for him to get a sour taste in his mouth towards the government from this. And it seems that’s exactly what happened. I’m just glad that he made a vow to himself to make it right rather than letting it drive him crazy. And what better way to fix things than to infiltrate the government by working for one of its agencies? It’s quite smart. It seems that we all have our hidden motivation behind what really pushes us. It’s just a shame that Skinner’s loyalties are what are preventing him from moving up in the FBI.

I just can’t believe that Skinner’s friend had unwittingly made his hometown a target. It seemed as though his time being used as an experiment at the government mental hospital wasn’t enough. He, along with the veterans that had been at the same facility, didn’t have the best outcome to life. Perhaps being so vocal about the gas and what it had caused them to see wasn’t the best move for them. It’s easy to say that the widespread panic in the town over-seeing monsters was actually mass hysteria stemming from shared paranoia. Little did the town folk know they were actually being gassed themselves.

Skinner killed the only guy who was actually onto the gassing too. Not a great move. It’s hard for me to say if he did that on purpose or not. Part of me still doesn’t want to trust Skinner. It would be so easy to pretend to be blind to the government’s control over the town. I wouldn’t be surprised if the smoking man had something to do with that too. And as we have seen, they have been canoodling so... Like I said, it’s hard for me to fully trust Skinner. If he wants to play Mulder and Scully in the long run he would want them to trust he is their one true ally in the FBI, wouldn’t he? I mean shoot; If the smoking man has a big plan involving the demise of Mulder who better to get close enough to make it happen? It’s clear that Scully wants to trust him. And you can’t blame her, they all have a long history.

I’m just hoping I’m wrong about this and Skinner is a good guy and isn’t playing both sides. I guess I’ll have to wait to see.
