Supernatural - "Regarding Dean" - Season 12 Episode 11

February 10, 2017

So in typical Supernatural style, the episode begins with a case. Who needs to worry about pending cosmic chaos right? And of course, with that lingering over their heads, Dean finds himself in a serious predicament when a spell is cast on him. I was quite shocked to see a stranger trust him with their iphone to call Sam when he found himself waking up in the park. However, it wasn’t too surprising to see Dean’s first thought going to food. He was obviously confused, and Sam as always will take forever to figure out what going on with him, I’m sure of it. But to see Dean incorrectly throw his gorgeous Impala into reverse, my heart sank. That has to be enough to cue Sam in right? As soon as I ask the question, Sam caught on. Seeing him not able to name the members of Bon Jovi is quite concerning.

Learning of Dean’s escapades from the night before is quite amusing. And the laughs keep coming as Dean’s memory slowly slips away. Even though the situation is quite serious, the writer’s approach and Jensen’s delivery was on point! I can’t tell you which part I laughed harder at, when he learns supernatural things are real or when he finds out he is best friends with an angel. Even when he discovers the body of which they were in search of I laughed; it was hard not to with how over-dramatic it was. The humor quickly subsides when we learn that what was supposed to cure Dean of his memory loss didn’t work. The witch is dead already so his memory should no longer be diminishing. Hopefully Rowena is up for another call and can figure this out. Because as humorous as Dean may be in his current state, we need him back.

I was happy to see Rowena went above and beyond a call and showed up. As she was explaining the origin of the symbols used to curse Dean, I began to get nervous. It was from an ancient form of Druid magic: Celtic symbols. And something told me this was going to take a lot of power to break. And worse, she explains to Sam this curse won’t just affect his memory, but his brain will stop sending the signals needed to live. Of course. I wouldn’t have expected anything less from this show with the world hanging in the balance.

Source: The CW

Here is hoping this Black Grimoire Rowena is on the hunt for really is the answer and that this isn’t just a ploy for her to get to it like Sam accused. So leaving her to babysit the ever so declining Dean, was quite humorous, especially when she handed him a voodoo doll to occupy himself. She is almost sweet in her own twisted way when left alone with him. With Rowena on speaker phone, Sam’s plan seems to be crumbling right in front of him. He walked right into this ancient witch family’s hands. I still can’t believe he didn’t at least call Cas to help. I mean, I know Cas has been on a losing streak, but he still always has their backs. I understand not calling his mom, as she would possibly be too emotionally involved this go around.

Luckily for Sam, Rowena is on his trail, Dean in tow, however, she has him confined to the car. I’m just hoping Rowena has what it takes to go up against them. They have plans to swap Sam’s soul for the soul of their dead brother’s. Talk about taking grief to a whole new level. I’m not surprised to see Dean not following Rowena’s instructions to stay in the car, and was relieved to see she also left notes directing him to the right weapon for the job, even if he did almost take out his own brother. Seeing the look on Sam’s face when Dean pretended he wasn’t cured was priceless. The hippie line was perfect too. It’s nice to get a break from all the constant drama and have an episode filled with humor every once and awhile.

Source: The CW

I was happy to see they did show Dean riding Larry as I was hoping they would. This episode didn’t disappoint in a way only Jensen can pull off. He really has a way of portraying Dean that is very lighthearted and innocent at times. And the humor both he and Jared infuse into the show is really well received. The bond they have behind the scenes really reflects in the show, especially the more laid back episodes such as this one. It should be interesting to see if we get a few more of these types of episodes before or as this big plot we are waiting for develops.

The Path - "The Red Wall" - Season 2 Episode 4 Recap and Review

February 9, 2017

Source: Hulu

I was hoping the episode would begin with Eddie, but alas, I was wrong. None other than creepy Cal and the oblivious Sarah graced my screen instead. I was pleased to see their moment was quick and to the point. Then there he was! What has our fallen hero gotten himself into now? Being strapped to a hospital bed is not a fun time, and never a good sign. But from what they showed, it was hard to see if they were going to keep him in a psych hold. One thing I was excited to see was the FBI questioning as they called her Ms. Jackson, the IRS woman. She was very forthcoming with information about Cal’s creepy side. So, here’s hoping this helps speed up his downfall. They know they’re going to try to blackmail her and she is a federal agent. So, I hope it’s Cal, not Sarah, who says whatever threat is coming, even if it is Sarah’s idea.  When they gave Lisa the bugged pen, I had a hunch she was going mess it up somehow. So here is hoping she doesn’t, for her sake.

Source: Hulu

When Sarah called Eddie and Chloe picked up, I about died. We have already seen how this woman spouts out of the mouth. So, I can’t imagine how she would explain what happened. She doesn’t let us down when she’s waiting at the hospital, eager to greet Sarah. I have to admit, seeing her leap out of the chair the way she did cracked me up. Sarah couldn’t even say a word. So it wasn’t too surprising to see her beg him to come home. It’s kind of nice to see Sarah not be a jerk, or act like a programmed zombie every once and awhile. It was quite amusing watching the doctor’s face as Eddie was released too. She really has no idea what she was dealing with in terms of The Movement. Cal admits to being behind the tail on Eddie, no surprise there.

Source: Hulu

And I wasn’t surprised to see Sarah alone in the meeting room waiting for Lisa Jackson either. She hasn’t proved to have the best judgement at all. And now the Feds are going to be after her too, not just Cal. Seeing Lisa pulling out the pen to warn Sarah with that note before she got too deep wasn’t all too shocking. I knew she wouldn’t blow their operation somehow. And after all, Lisa’s beef was really with Cal. But one thing that I was shocked about, Sean. Showing up at Eddie’s professing his confusion about the movement, wow. I mean, I knew he would be upset because of the baby, but dang. And of course, as always, Eddie comes through with some boss advice. And I was happy to see him follow some of the doctor’s advice and get into a meeting for people who have been in cults.

Source: Hulu

I just wish that Hawk wasn’t stubborn and would talk to Eddie. He needs his dad, big time. He needs to step outside of himself for a moment and see what’s really going on. It’s obvious Hawk isn’t completely blind to the subtle things that should concern the followers in the movement. I just wish he would admit it to himself already and stop being so eager to follow. He would be such a great leader if he would trust himself. It’s nice to see Kodiak and Richard doing just that and continuing to dig deeper into Cal. I was sure Kodiak was going to do something creepy when he pulled Cal aside with the bunny. And I must say I was very relieved to see he didn’t! It’s just scary to think Cal, the most psycho, paranoid guy ever now knows there is a rat among them. I see that going very badly. Innocent people may soon see his wrath if he suspects they are the informant, I’m sure. It’s just annoying at this point how dumb Sarah is. She knows how crazy Cal is and still gave him the opportunity to stew on that devastating bit of information. She can’t be stupid enough to think he can play it cool with that information. I guess we just have to be patient and see how it all plays out.

Supernatural - "Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets" - Season 12 Episode 10 Review

February 7, 2017

Source: The CW

From the second the episode began I knew the woman playing the arcade game was an angel of some sort. And when the redhead came in yielding two angel swords, an eye patch, and a major attitude, I knew she had to be more than the average angel. The first angel, whom we learn is Benjamin, finds himself in a compromising position. Angel sword pressed against his heart, he calls out to the rest of the angels. And something says, this is just what this redhaired mystery vixen wants. But, it certainly didn’t save Benjamin.

Source: The CW

With the way the last episode ended it was nice to see I wasn’t the only one bothered by Billie’s cosmic threat. Dean seemed just as concerned by her words. After all, considering all they have encountered, none of that has really been on the cosmic scale, regardless of how crazy. So who knows how much is at stake from Castiel’s latest uh-oh. But something tells me Castiel isn’t done making silly choices, after all, he is known for that. And when he is bummed out, his decision making skills tend to be even weaker. So it’s concerning to seeing him set out to find the cause of Benjamin’s call for help.

Source: The CW

When the trio arrives at the scene of Benjamin’s demise, Castiel is over taken once again by emotion. He can’t seem to wrap his head around how this could have happened to such a strong soldier as Benjamin. And that’s when they find the angel sword, which further confuses them I am sure. What kind of angel would harm another? Though we have seen it before. Once Castiel holds the found sword he can tune into who it belongs to. A skill that would come in handy for lost objects you may find, but I guess that’s a skill left to the angels. Unfortunately, he wasn’t the only one to tune into energy, as our vixen also felt his energy.

Source: The CW

Whoever this vixen is, Castiel feels the need to call on another old angel friend he fought under, Ishim. And it doesn’t seem Ishim is a real fan of Castiel. As we have heard before, he doesn’t agree with the sacrifices Castiel has chosen to make. Putting humans above his angel brethren doesn’t sit well with them. So when Dean storms into their meeting with Sam in tow, it again doesn’t look good for Castiel. But, he did warn them these angels don’t like humans. I guess Castiel isn’t the only one who makes selfish choices, is he Dean?

Source: The CW

What looks even worse is when Ishim sends his lackey Mirabel out to see if Castiel brought along anyone else and turns up dead. Not cool, vixen lady, not cool. When Ishim finds Mirabel in the alley, our mystery vixen takes advantage and strikes. Luckily for him, Castiel was still around, and steps in. As Ishim is yelling for Cas to her, he tries to place her; he knows her somehow. This is where, as always, Sam and Dean step in to help out. Maybe this will change Ishim’s mind about humans? But I doubt it. This mystery woman tells Sam and Dean she doesn’t want to harm any human, she just wants to finish what she has started. This peaks my interest even more. Just who is she? And why does she want to smite all these angels so badly? She obviously has some deep grudge. Before we can get any answers, she blinds them with her bright light and takes off. Now that’s a cool party trick, am I right?

Source: The CW

When we learn the story of where Ishim and Castiel knew this red-haired mystery woman, Lily, it makes sense. They were sent to kill her family, who wouldn’t want revenge? But if she had birthed a nephilim, how is it she had power now? And what is with the patch? I have so many questions watching this, I hope they all get answered. And then Ishim drops a bomb that answers my biggest question, the source of her power. She made a demonic pact; that is not good, at all. She is immune to angel power. They are indeed up for a fight. And moms will fight hard for their children, so I’m sure it’s going to get messy. I am surprised at the guys’ naive decision to confront Lily alone. Regardless of her declaration not to hurt humans, it’s still a reckless move. I was shocked by the bomb Lily dropped when they arrived. The nephilim that Cas, Ishim, and the other were sent to kill, wasn’t a nephilim after all. Lily’s daughter’s father wasn’t the angel Akobel as they had thought. So they had taken two innocent lives. Talk about depressing. If we thought Cas was in a bum mood before, wait until he hears the truth of his mission. Ishim had known the truth the entire time and had acted on jealousy. How messed up is that! I knew he was a grade A jerk, but holy moly, that’s so cold. Knowing this information puts Sam and Dean in a compromising position. Castiel was involved in some shady business, whether he was aware of it or not. He has risked everything to protect them in the past, are they going to have to do the same for him? Castiel being one of my favorites, I really hope Lily doesn’t have her mind set on killing him and keeps it to only Ishim. Again we find out another lie Ishim has told. Lily isn’t using dark magic, she is using angel magic. But with a price. With each spell, she sacrifices a piece of her soul. That’s deep.

Source: The CW

And of course when Dean tells Cas the information he was given, Ishim overhears. Given the fact this jerk just got his power restored, this is not looking good. When a fight ensues between Ishim, Castiel, and Dean I wasn’t too surprised. But to see Lily show up with Sam… I wasn’t quite betting on that. But seeing he is the one she wants revenge on most, I shouldn’t have been too surprised. When Lily took her eye patch off I couldn’t help but think of X-Men’s Cyclops. But before this Sheclops could execute her revenge, Castiel steps in just as he had done with Billie. Has he not learned his lesson? I can’t imagine she will be too pleased; she sacrificed her soul and didn’t get to be the one to kill Ishim. Over one hundred years of imagining that moment, gone. Though, Castiel’s apology was spot on. I guess we will see if she accepts it. Something tells me we will see her again. I hope for one she comes as an ally, not a foe. Even after all this, Cas knows he still needs to hunt down Kelly and her devil spawn. That kid needs to be dealt with. Maybe he’s the cosmic consequence? I can’t wait to find out.
