The Walking Dead - "Say Yes" and "Bury Me Here" - Season 7 Episodes 12 and 13 Reviews

March 19, 2017

Season 7 Episode 12

"Say Yes"

Source: AMC

There’s a lot of sex but not a lot of scavenging to be had during Rick and Michonne’s scouting mission but that doesn’t deter them.  There’s always some poor idiots who play golf in the apocalypse to get the drop on.  Rosita is still on her faux PTSD tough guy trip and even Tara’s kindness warrants asshole responses.  She then decides to go on a one woman mission to find all the guns ever.

Source: AMC

When that fails, she complains to Gabriel, who in his own gentle way, tells her to go fuck herself.  The bulk of the episode is spent with Rick and Michonne as they stumble upon a hefty cache of dry goods and military rations, as well as a county fair gone awry.  It’s clear there was a firefight between the national guard/military and the walkers, and the walkers won.  Now all that’s left are heavily armed walkers, which was exactly what they needed.

However in the endeavor of two people taking on what would be enough walkers to overrun even the most seasoned warriors, there is bound to be some dodgy moments.  After Rick takes a fall while trying to snipe a deer (in the middle of being accosted on all sides by walkers) it looks like he is finally overwhelmed and devoured.

Source: AMC

We know that Rick has plot armor on for at least the next two seasons but still, the sight of walkers’ maws wet with fresh Rick blood completely floors Michonne.  She loses her will to fight for maybe the first time ever in the show and seems to resign herself to the same fate.  But of course, Rick takes a page from Glenn’s (RIP) playbook and slips away while the walkers are busy with the deer.

Still, the damage was done.  Michonne was deeply shaken and it serves as a reminder to both the characters and us as viewers that in this upcoming fight with Negan, there will be casualties.  The lovers must be prepared to lose each other, in the name of a better tomorrow for the younger generation of survivors.  And should that happen, the remaining person must be strong enough to lead the group to new horizons.  I don’t think either of them have much to worry about, but still, it is a sobering reminder not to be so cavalier about going to war.

On top of that, Jadis and her trash warriors aren’t satisfied with the sixty odd guns Rick and Michonne found, so the war effort is yet again delayed.

In the meantime, Rosita has decided she’s had enough and goes to Hilltop to make a proposition to Sasha, that they raid Sanctuary just the twosies and Sasha gets to snipe Negan with a high powered rifle.  Between the two of them they think they have enough intel to be at least successful enough to get Negan, but make a death pact in case they can’t escape.

Source: AMC

And Tara seems to have come to a decision regarding revealing the whereabouts of Oceanside…

I don’t think it’s too smart for Rosita and Sasha to go it alone, but this may set up some of the inevitable deaths that not only have become the series’ signature but are expected when engaging in what is being built up to be a large scale conflict.

I’m also not sure what the timetable is either.  Rick and Michonne scouted for days, and we assume that this is between Savior visits.  But after Rosita’s failed assassination attempt, wouldn’t Negan want to keep a closer eye on Alexandria?

We’ll see what happens next week, when we jump storylines/settlements yet again.

Season 7 Episode 13

"Bury Me Here"

Source: AMC

Carol has never been someone who can detach herself from a situation or those she cares about.  It’s exactly this sensitivity that fuels her quiet, accurate wrath but also what tortures her at night.  This episode begins with her unable to convince herself that Daryl was telling the truth about the Saviors and Alexandria.  She demands of Morgan the truth, and he implies that things are indeed not what they seem but that she needs to talk to Daryl about that.  While Morgan’s zen calm prevents him from acting when perhaps he should, seeking peace where there is none, Carol’s inner fire keeps her acting when all she wants is true peace.

Source: AMC

Meanwhile the Kingdom is experiencing a weevil infestation, which lightens their offerings to the Saviors, and Richard is trying to capitalize on that.  Life in the Kingdom is good, and such things cannot last forever.  He sets up a roadblock with a cryptic message and an open grave.  “Bury me here” is what the sign reads, but bury whom?  It’s obvious he’s trying to force a fight and perhaps he’s willing to shed his own blood to accomplish that, but when he sabotages the drop, it’s Benjamin who pays the price.  Note: whenever a character looks too happy, bad shit is coming.

Source: AMC

Benjamin was the personification of all that was good in the world, and in the Kingdom.  Youth, passion, innocence, love, willingness to learn and optimism for the future.  He was exactly what Ezekiel wanted to protect.  Could a kid like him flourish under the Saviors’ rule?  Perhaps not forever.  Would he have survived a war with them?  Again, perhaps not.  But unfortunately he was the unintended victim of Richard’s machinations of war.  Ideally he would have been the one to take the punishment for the light offering, and he would have been buried in that significant spot behind the supermarket, the Kingdom would have risen up to fight, and he would have died comfortably knowing he’d sparked the fire.  But it’s the young who pay the consequences for the politics of the old.

Source: AMC

Morgan too realizes that inner peace doesn’t carry over to the real world.  Whether it’s forced or it visits you at random, there’s always a fight on the horizon.  Benjamin died believing in Morgan’s little zen one liners, and the irony of that pushes him over the edge.  Almost about to kill himself, instead he stumbles on what cost a kid his life:  one single melon.  When he confronts Richard, he explains his intentions and that while Benjamin’s death was tragic, it was necessary to drive the Kingdom into the fight.  Richard is also a man plagued by loss because of inaction and vows to be the one who leads the charge in the fight against the Saviors.  All that needs to be done is to regain the trust of Gavin and crew by taking Benjamin’s death as a lesson.

Source: AMC

Before he can do that, however, Morgan chokes him to death.  Kind of unnecessary but Morgan’s mental state is a bit fragile.  Maybe he’s decided the zen shit isn’t working, and it is indeed time to fight the Saviors, but not before Richard pays for what he did.  It was a disturbing display but it remains to be seen if he’s going to be an asset to the fight.

Either way, he visits Carol and in his own way admits that his philosophy has finally failed him.  More importantly, he tells her what really happened with the Saviors.  It’s enough for her to pack up and move into the Kingdom, presumably to kick Ezekiel into gear, but not before they take the time to replant the crops they had to slash and burn.

Morgan meanwhile sits alone, turning his stick into something pointier.  Watch out, Negan.

The Path - "Oz" - Season 2 Episode 9 Recap and Review

March 16, 2017

Source: Hulu

It only occurred to me as the previous episode recap was playing that we still had no idea what had happened to Sean. We knew his parents had taken him, insisting he was leaving Meyerism, with Mary and the baby. But I was so caught up in the other storylines I had forgotten about that! I could only hope as I would watch this episode it would be addressed. And I wasn’t disappointed. We saw Sean’s mother and the intervention specialist cornering Mary at a restaurant. But of course, Mary is resistant. She won’t stray from Cal, she’s too obsessed. I really don’t think it’s about the movement at all. It never has been. And my theory was proven when she runs to his side in the middle of the night when she gets his text. Even if she’s trying to pull away, she’s still there for him. And it’s creepy.

Source: Hulu

It’s interesting to watch Sarah further her smear campaign to gather funds for the movement. She has no idea the hole she is digging herself into. She is now trying to, as she says, “monetize our message,” and I’m sure that will backfire too. If the guilt doesn't get to her first that is… Cal and Sarah chose the perfect time to have a melt down, an hour before they are suppose to talk at the conference. They’re so creepy together as they try to comfort each other. They know exactly how to manipulate the crowd though once they step on stage. Even I would have loved their speech had I not known how insane Cal is and how ridiculous Sarah is. And of course this little bonding experience makes Sarah go back to making dumb decisions; like hooking up with Cal. She deserves everything coming to her. I can’t wait to watch her go down in flames now.

Source: Hulu

But can we talk about the most savage of them all? Gaines. He has manipulated to the most insecure member, Nicole. He has used her in ways that will only lead to heartache for both his wife and Nicole. But he got the tapes he can use to bury the movement. So I guess we will see if it was worth it for him or if he actually does care for Nicole.

Source: Hulu

It’s also interesting to see Eddie trying to embrace what he knows he’s pulled to be, the leader of the movement. The faceless vision he had was pretty intense, I have to admit. And he has a point with his opinions on the ideology of deniers in the movement. If they really want to align with light, being mean to the people who are closest to them when they disagree isn’t the way. And reaching out to Tessa, Sarah’s sister; bold! Even though it didn’t go as planned, it put him in a place to run into Hawk’s old flame. I have a feeling that will help him more than Tessa could. And judging by the look on his face when he saw her, it won't take much.

Source: Hulu

But what is with that ending? Where did Eddie get that wound? And will he be okay? I can’t handle seeing him getting pushed down right when he is getting up. He has a great plan to overtake Cal and the support of Felicia and Richard to do it. Something crazy better not throw it all off now. It's already bad enough that it looks like Kodiak may not be on board. I was really hoping he would be in support of Eddie leading the movement. But unfortunately, he is only worried about his one true love, Sarah’s mom. Sarah must have gotten her poor decision making skills from her mom. I really can’t wait until next week. I need to know what’s going to happen to Eddie. And I need to know if Hawk will finally see the truth of the movement and be on his dad’s team. I really hope so.

Supernatural - "Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell" - Season 12 Episode 15

March 10, 2017

Maybe it’s my twisted sense of humor, but as this episode began and we see the Hellhounds reemerge, I can’t help but wonder; if Gwen didn’t spoil her surprise proposal, would her beau still be alive? I guess we will never know. But it’s nice to see at least she got away. And we know something serious is popping off, because Cas finds out someone is killing angels, again. As he’s investigating, I can’t help but chuckle at the manager of the cafe where one of the angels was killed. He’s convinced he’s “woke” and not one of the “sheeple.” Something I hear quite often being involved in the metaphysical and spiritual communities. The kicker: he thinks it’s aliens, reptilians to be exact. A conspiracy theory I have heard lots about over the years.

Source: The CW

And how sneaky is this Hellhound?! It managed to get past both Sam and Dean when they came by to reassure Gwen there was nothing to fear. Smart little bugger. And patient too! He waited for guys to leave before trying to make his move. I’m just glad the guys came back in time to save her or they may have felt pretty guilty! As for the Hellhound’s mission, that seemed to be a mystery. They had no clue why he would come after someone who hadn’t sold their soul. When they guys call Crowley to get the scoop, his reaction is quite priceless, as always. He’s still mad about his son being sent back in time to die, but understands the gravity of the situation. It doesn’t look good on the King of Hell to lose control of one of his Hellhounds, Ramsey. So, of course, he orders the kennel guards to be taken out, painfully, in true Crowley style.

Source: The CW

I always love hearing the creation stories behind the monsters and such. And Ramsey was no different. She had been created by God, only to find out they were too vicious. He wanted them put down, but Lucifer saved Ramsey, who happened to be pregnant. And go figure, he is the only one she will listen to. When I heard that, I couldn’t help but smile. It’s quite amusing to me that Crowley has talked to much smack to Lucifer while he has had him locked up. Now, he has been had. His lackeys have pulled the wool over Crowley’s eyes. I honestly wasn’t expecting that! They were the ones to let Ramsey free as distraction to find out what Crowley was up to. And boy was their hunch right. He had Lucifer, and they had the key to free him. Why must Crowley always think he’s in control? He is always getting duped or screwed over, so you would think the man would learn, right? Same with his dumb lackeys. I mean who makes demands of Lucifer himself and thinks there won't be repercussions? It was almost satisfying seeing him smite the demon who made all the demands. And very funny seeing the other beg to be “devoured”. I really love the way he plays Lucifer. It’s almost endearing.

Source: The CW

When Gwen had that heart to heart with emo Sam, it was quite a shocker. She had wanted to break up with her boyfriend, and he wanted to get married. How sad. Maybe it was less painful for him to be killed by a Hellhound than to be turned down anyways, eh? Speaking of painful, did anyone else’s heart sink when they saw the damage to the car? Dean is not going to be pleased, and I wouldn’t either. I love Impalas and that one is quite the beaut. Or at least it was until Ramsey had her way with it. And I am sure seeing the damage, Dean would have wanted to be the one to kill her.

Source: The CW

And can we talk about that ending though? Just when Lucifer thought he was back in control, a big bomb is dropped. Crowley is way ahead of him and already warded Lucifer’s vessel; every single molecule. How many times is being the son of a witch going to save his ass? I love this sneaky bastard. Sneakiness in mind, I am glad Sam told Dean about being in touch with the British Men of Letters. He didn’t keep it a secret as long as his mom did from both of them. And I love he has Mick’s name in his phone as Frodo. I don’t love, however, that my boy Cas is leaving and didn’t even tell the guys. I just hope it’s not a trick. After all, he’s still on a lot of angels’ bad sides. Here’s hoping next week we don’t find our favorite angel in a bad position!
