Supernatural - "Mint Condition" - Season 14 Episode 4 Review

By Kaylynn Kasandra

So, I have grown quite found to the somewhat fluffier filler episodes such as this one. Yes, it wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine, but it was nice to see the Winchester brothers on a classic ghost case. I like seeing just the two of them together sometimes, it feels nostalgic in a way. It was quite easy to love to hate the klepto comic book nerd that was at the root of this week’s case. He was pretty irritating. I found it to be pretty amusing that he got his ass handed to him by a 10 inch action figure. Though, it would make sense the very thing he stole would turn against him.

I always find it entertaining when the guys find reasons to pick on one another, and this episode was no different. From the comparisons they drew between one another and the comic book kids to the hilarious costume suggestion Dean made to Sam at the end of the episode. My personal favorite of his suggested ideas being Turner and Hooch.

Though I do quite enjoy these type of episodes, it did make me realize it has been awhile since we have seen either Otherworld Bobby or Mary. And given the severity of the situation at hand with Michael it makes me wonder how long it will be until they make an appearance again.

It is to be presumed Castiel sat this one out and was with Jack. Which leads me to wonder if in this offscreen absence he will become privy to Jack’s secret. But I guess we will have to wait to find out about that.

One thing that did spark my interest was the ending of this episode. Is there a significance in the idea of the ghost not really being gone? I doubt it will have any bearing on the greater picture of this season, but it is quite interesting nonetheless. Because, as we know burning things that belonged to a ghost is an effective way of ridding yourself of said ghost. However, wouldn’t everything in the comic book store technically belong to this ghost Jordon? I mean, it was his store after all. I’m not quite sure if I will ever get answers as far as that goes, but it is interesting to think about.

I know it has nothing to do with this episode, but I do have to say, I still have my doubts about Lucifer’s vessel. I have a feeling, he definitely still has some kind of hold on him, and we shall be seeing more into that in upcoming episodes as well. Given he was at Satan’s mercy for so many years it would be nearly impossible for there not to be some kind of cord of attachment that developed between them. I’m looking forward to seeing how that whole scenario plays out and if it may link back to Jack somehow.

But, I feel like we will have another episode or two based on cases before we will get anywhere with the main plots going on in this season. So, it looks like I will just have to be patient while I wait for everything to develop.

Supernatural - "Scar" - Season 14 Episode 3 Review

I’m not even going to lie, I was a little suspicious going into this episode. It seemed a little too easy for Michael to up and leave Dean. But, once other world Kaia confirmed Michael had evacuated Dean’s vessel, I realized maybe for once things were that simple. I am pretty impressed with the lack of severe emo-ness going on this season. I have become accustomed to at least one of the guys falling victim to emotional turmoil at the start of each season, but this season it hasn’t been as bad.

I mean, yes, Sam was mopey without Dean, but it didn’t get too out of hand as it has in the past. So that was a nice change of pace. Because those of you familiar with my reviews probably have noticed, I am not a big fan of over-emotional Sam. Castiel hasn’t gotten too worked up either. Jack has been tempted, but as we seen in this episode, he changed his mind.

I like watching Jack as his character develops. He still has that whole naive, new-to-the-world nephilim vibe, but he is maturing. It was nice to see him catch himself before running away again. I wonder what it was about Lora and the curse she had over her that drew him in.

Perhaps we will never know. But, still, I am grateful we won’t have another season of one of the main characters having a melt down and taking off. It is quite concerning that he is sick now though. It makes me wonder how long he is going to keep that a secret. I mean, he was raised by Cas, Dean, and Sam. So it’s not like he is going to be forthcoming with such a big revelation. But, who knows, he may surprise me.

It was nice to see Jody make an appearance in this episode. Considering her connection to Kaia, it seemed appropriate that she would have assisted when the reveal of other-world Kaia was made to the guys. I do however worry about her since now she is weakened by the broken arm she received from that vampire. Let’s hope that doesn’t mean something bigger won’t happen later in the season regarding her girls. I mean, for the most part, they are pretty self-sufficient, but with Jody injured I just feel like something will happen she won’t be able to help them with. Jody has been in the game longer though, so who knows.

I am kind of excited to see where other-world Kaia will fit in now that she kind of made friends with the guys. I’m sure she is still going to want to be solo in her mission to destroy Michael, but it never seems to work out that way in this show. So I’m sure an alliance will be made between her and the guys. I can’t lie, I enjoyed watching her call Dean out. He always tries to play the tough guy role and not confront his demons, so it’s good when someone presents them to him.

I have a feeling his opening up to Sam was just the beginning in what we are going to see from Dean this season. There is no way he could have been used as a vessel by other-world Michael and not have some severe trauma associated it with it. Seeing him admit it was a good start though. I’m just hoping it doesn’t turn into some long drawn out emotional thing, as we have a tendency to see in the show.

As always, the season seemed to start a little slow, but I am glad to see it’s starting to pick up the pace once again. I was slightly concerned I wasn’t going to be as invested this season. Luckily, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Supernatural - "Devil's Bargain" - Season 13 - Episode 13 Review

By Kaylynn Kasandra

Source: The CW

Every season, somewhere around the mid season break, I am left questioning if this will be the season the show lets me down. It’s quite hard to come up with new and interesting storylines for each season that will keep longtime viewers not only engaged, but excited. I am happy to say, I have yet to be let down. And this season is no different.

I really like the idea of the Angels going dark, falling in succession. We have seen the Winchesters battle Lucifer in the past, but not quite like this. This time, there seems to be so much more at stake. Not only are they still needing to get to Jack before Lucifer can, they need to get to their mom as well. I’m not sure they really understand what all will be standing in their way to make that possible either. Other reality Michael is pretty angry! Even Lucifer knows he’s going to be a major pain in the ass. We never got to see all of the time he spent with Michael while he was in the other world. And judging by the state we see he had Mary in, we know he likes to draw things out. So it should be quite the battle of the minds when they all go head to head.

I must say, it’s quite fun to see one of the actors working side by side with their wife. In this episode we got to see Anael, played by Danneel Ackles. It was nice to see her in that role, I think she really owned it. She sells Anael’s badass, unappreciated angel vibe very well. It’s always nice to see Lucifer’s sensitive side, and Anael brought that out as well. I have to admit, I really like them as a team. I feel disloyal for liking them, but they work well together. I mean, did you see how easy it was for them to break free from the guys? Not only that, but it didn’t take them long to take over Heaven either. Ask and you shall receive, right?

Source: The CW

I can only wonder if any of the angels will try to double cross them once they get their wings. It wouldn’t really surprise me if Anael is the one to do that. I mean, she is quite like Lucifer, and that’s what he would do. She’s a really great manipulator. I couldn’t help but notice that she seemed hurt when she found out Lucifer was the one who has drained, then killed Cupid and the others. It leaves me wondering, did she have a personal connection with those angels? Maybe even just one? It would make sense that she would want to get close to Lucifer to get revenge if that’s the case. I could be wrong, she could just be in it for her own personal gain. Or worse, she may really like Lucifer.

The most shocking of all from this episode wasn’t the fact that Ketch was honest with the guys. Nor was it the guys being saved by Ketch. No, the most shocking to me was seeing that Mr.Colonel Sanders creepy demon dude, has a pet. And not a hellhound like most guys of his type. Nope, he had to one up all the creeps we have met and have an Archangel!!! What the what!!! Archangel Gabriel was bound and beaten, mouth sewn shut in his own personal prison! That was not something I expected. I don’t think Ketch expected it either. So now we know Asmodeus has just what he needs to defeat Lucifer, even with him at full power. I would say that’s a good thing, but he creeps me out way more than Lucifer ever has. I hope Ketch is able to get the Archangel sword away from him, and quickly. And let’s hope Gabriel gets released before he’s forced into being a pawn in the epic battle brewing.

I have to say, I thought the Darkness was intense. But, something is telling me this battle that’s coming is going to be way, way, worse. I hope we aren’t going to be left with a clinghanger, though I’m sure we will be. And I hope Jack has a plan, because the guys are really going to need it!
