First, I would like to apologize for my lack of review of last week’s episode, it honestly just slipped my mind. I did watch it, it was just way too late to make a review. So, I will be sure not to let that happen again, moving on.
I was pretty happy to see that this week we got to see different types of monsters than we have in the past. It was also nice to see that Jack was back, but unfortunately we still were lacking my favorite angel, Castiel. I would have loved to have seen Castiel’s reaction to the Musca. That had to have been the most interesting of creatures we have come across in quite a while in this show. A rebellious half fly, half human. Very interesting.
I was glad to see the Winchester guys split up to do their own thing this episode. It’s always nice to see them apart, especially when one of them is going through an emotional phase such as Dean is. Though we didn’t catch as much of that as we did in past episodes this season. We got to dig a little deeper into other world Charlie this episode as well, which was nice. It’s been interesting to see how similar yet different the other world people are from their counterparts that we all know and love. As we learned in last week’s episode, Bobby and Mary have seemed to hit it off. I can’t have imagined that would have happened with the Bobby we knew from Sam and Dean’s world. But, I could be wrong. We learned in this episode that other world Charlie had a girlfriend. I’m kind of holding out hope she will be able to meet her again in this world. I guess we will have to see.
I did find it interesting that the Musca was brought back by its family even after its betrayal. It goes to show that family ties aren’t just strong in the human world, but that even the most elusive of creatures have their ceremony. The most amusing part to me of that case was all the goo. That was quite the messy kill for Sam and Charlie. But luckily, it was effective, even if they were lacking a brass sugar coated nail.
The case Dean and Jack was on did take me a bit by surprise, but not too much. I had a feeling Harper was in on it somehow, I just wasn’t quite sure how. I didn’t expect her to be a necromancer, so that is the part that surprised me. But having a zombie at the center of that case was a good change of pace.
I think Dean and Jack play well off each other. It’s always amusing to me to see how innocent Jack still is. It is kind of hard to forget that he is essentially still a baby, even if he appears to be grown. Which makes me wonder how Harper would feel if she was privy to his real age. Harper was kind of a creep though, I mean seriously, who keeps their dead boyfriend around? And to top that off, she claims to have fallen for Jack instantly. A point that Dean was trying to convince Jack wasn’t true. However, I think Dean was still bitter because Jack called him an old man.
Though most of the episode did little to nothing in regards to the main plot of the season, the most important thing was addressed at the end of the episode. Dean now knows Jack is ill. I’m glad they didn’t drag that out too long. But part of me wonders if our crazy new necromancer will catch wind of things and try to step in. I guess only time will tell.
