After what seemed to me to have been a lifetime, I was pleased to see that The Path returned with not two, but three new episodes. Having been ill, I was quite happy to have essentially three hours to binge watch. Let me tell you, the wait didn’t disappoint! Within the first few minutes, I was sucked in! Sadly, the pace slowed down over the course of the three episodes, but the premiere episodes didn’t disappoint overall. Seeing Eddie take on a super human role in the start of the return episode was pretty cool. I have not been shy in showing I am team Eddie, so I was glad to see others see how awesome he is.
I would be lying if I said it wasn’t more satisfying for me to see Creepy Cal squirm having had witnessed Eddie’s epic Daernerys (Game of Thrones anyone?) moment. Creepy Cal has been way too comfortable in his role as leader of the movement. Now he is so disturbed by Eddie’s new role he took Mary, their baby, and fled. In true Creepy Cal style he stole the very ideas and structure of the movement and rebranded it as his own. He used it for his own financial gain as well as to feel that power of leadership once again. It bit him in the ass though. Again, making me very happy as I watched it all unfold. His traveling life coach show gig landed him in quite the pickle: he became all but a personal slave to an ex-athlete with some serious issues. Being the assholes they are, Mary and Cal were completely fine extorting this severe mental case until it became clear how much of a physical threat he was to them. While all this was unfolding Cal was still dealing with all of his own issues. He tries so very hard to push it all down and ignore it. As always, Mary isn’t blind to it. But she also has issues of her own, which is sure to come back to bite them in the ass later this season. I mean seriously… what was she thinking stealing from that mental athlete dude? And his rings of all things? Come on!
Now let’s delve into my next least favorite character, Sara. She still seems to be the same overly trusting, bad decision making, selfish jerk that she has always been. I can’t be the only one who watched these episodes thinking her new friendship with this professor is going to be her downfall this season. That and her new obsession with that crazy bondage therapy she and Cal tried together. Once again showing us they have no freaking chance of ever breaking up their ridiculous co-dependent relationship. I’ve always said Sara is just as jacked up as Cal, and I think this season we will get to see that more and more.
While on the subject of hard to break habits, Eddie seems to keep making some as well. This time he has let this Logan kid blind him into thinking maybe, just maybe he’s like he was at his age. But after Logan began fighting with Hawk we see a change of heart from Eddie, and he’s quick to show Logan the door. But really, who he needs to be worrying about is Veda. His new publicist that seemed to come just as he came out of the fire. I mean who the hell is this creepy lady and her even creepier mom Lilith anyways? They keep insinuating she is like the snake who we kept seeing around Steve in Eddie’s visions. Even knowing they were bad news from the start I was still shocked to hear them talking about Eddie’s death and how it needs to happen so they can live. That’s some creepy stuff that I can’t wait to learn more about.
I really hope in this season we will see more from Hawk. It seems as though he has found his way in terms of leadership within the movement, which is nice. But, I need to see more. Whatever happened to him levitating in the woods? Are we going to ever go back to that, or is this just going to be something we keep ignoring happened? I don’t want to give up hope that Hawk is going to be the key to everything when things start to unravel. Which, I believe is going to happen soon seeing as our new friends are around and Cal is on his way back.
Let’s just hope Hawk doesn’t get all emotional this season when it really matters. He seems to do that. There are quite a lot of new things happening within the movement with how things are run. Especially with the interfaith connections being made. Let’s hope these bonds will bring more positive than drama. Because frankly, I have a feeling they will have their fill of problems coming their way this season.
