Supernatural - "The Spear" - Season 14 Episode 9 Review

By Kaylynn Kasandra

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed with this mid-season finale. I feel like it could have had way more action than it did. But, I can see that they are trying to save all the good stuff for the finale. I knew Michael had found a new vessel since there was no way he just up and left, however, I wasn’t expecting it to be female. Not that the gender of said vessel really matters. I can’t decide if I liked that vessel or the original otherworld Michael vessel more. I am leaning more towards the original I suppose.

It was nice to see that aside from a late night cereal binge Jack seemed to be pretty resilient. Unlike the Winchester’s when they die, he seemed to not fall down the rabbit hole of depression and jumped right back into things. So to me, that is pretty refreshing. However, I still feel like he should have regained some of his powers back in the whole ordeal, but I suppose we will have to wait and see how that all works out.

I did find some humor in the guys’ interaction with Ketch in this episode. I mean, as someone who once was able to have access to making the impossible possible it was funny to see Ketch resort to priority shipping to get the guys the help they needed. To which as we see, fails miserably when Michael intercepts the egg and quickly destroys it.

It was kind of silly of the guys to think Garth wasn’t being watched by Michael. I mean, he was in his company, and he did take the grace. So for the guys not to realize that maybe he was compromised was a bit silly. I’m just surprised Michael didn’t do much to Sam when he stole Jack. And as always, in true Winchester style, Sam refused to wait for back up in that rescue mission.

I was taken back slightly by how easily it seemed Kaia gave over the spear though. It should be quite interesting to find out what her motivation for that was. My guess, maybe she found her true love in this world, who knows. That’s the only thing I can think of right now that may have triggered her to give up the spear.

I am not too surprised by the way this episode ended though. I mean, it was just too easy for them to get the spear that I knew something had to come in and jack things up for them. Michael seemed to have been several steps ahead of them throughout the whole episode. He led them to exactly where he wanted them. And I feel like Michael’s whole motivation for not being harder on Sam when he stole Jack was so that he would be there to see Michael once again take hold of Dean’s vessel.

I mean what could be worse than the possibility of having to destroy your own brother in order to save the world? I just wish I knew how Michael figured Dean was finally weak enough not to fight it this time. I suppose we will have to wait until January to find out.

Supernatural - "Byzantium" - Season 14 Episode 8 Review

By Kaylynn Kasandra

Holy bananas, I feel like so much happened, yet, so little. The episode starts with Jack dying. I can’t say I thought that would happen this soon. But, in true Winchester fashion, the guys were able to figure out a way to get Jack back. They called on Lily: “the angel killing psycho” as Dean calls her. She said she had magick that could help Jack if he was willing to give up a piece of his soul. Something the guys were way too eager to agree to. Of course she tried to change her mind until Dean called her out on not having any humanity left.

But, like with everything else in this show, nothing comes easy. The shadow/empty had come back from the nothing, hell bent on collecting Jack for itself. And honestly, I feel silly for not realizing last week just who it was. I guess I am still holding out hope Lucifer will make his return. But, I digress. Once again the angels suffered as the shadow/empty came and killed most of what little angels were left. Heaven is now seriously suffering in terms of numbers.

On the upside, Jack was able to recognize he was in Heaven and finally got to meet his mother. A reunion that was short lived, as Castiel was able to barter to get the shadow/empty to take him instead of Jack thus allowing Jack to return to Earth alive. But of course, there was a catch, it would be on the shadow/empty’s terms. Castiel has no idea when it will come calling, as it wants nothing more than to see him suffer. I’m hoping it will give him enough time to come up with a plan because Supernatural without Castiel would be the worst.

I was happy to see that both Lily and Castiel’s sacrifices weren’t in vain. Cas was able to get the location of Michael which is huge, even if they don’t have dark Kaia or the spear. And Lily was granted entry to heaven where she is to be finally reunited with her daughter. My worry is, how long are Cas and Jack going to be able to keep Castiel’s sacrifice a secret? I mean, sooner or later he’s going to be taken to the nothing and there is no way the guys are gonna let that happen without a fight.

I am hoping that somehow, someway, Castiel will be able to get Michael to take his place in the nothing, therefore killing two birds with one stone. But that’s going to take some serious work to make that happen.

It seems like next week we will finally be seeing Michael again, so things should be getting pretty crazy. It would be nice to see Jack with his powers again, but I guess we will have to wait and see. I mean he did take the grace before he died, so I’m not sure how that would work upon his resurrection. The spell took his soul, not the grace he ingested. So, I’m anxious to see if that will have any impact on the fight that is about to go down. I feel like we have been waiting for this for a long time. And next week being the mid-season finale, it should be good.

Supernatural - "Unhuman Nature" - Season 14 Episode 7 Review

By Kaylynn Kasandra

It seems old habits die hard when you have been possessed by Lucifer himself for so long. We see Nick still struggling to come to terms with the death of his family. However, in true Lucifer style, he doesn’t mope around and feel sorry for himself. Instead, he turns to revenge. I can’t lie, I kinda miss Lucifer and all his crazy antics, so seeing Nick filling that void has been quite nice. Can you really blame him for his murderous rampage? I can’t. The man has a serious case of PTSD. How could he not? It should be interesting to see how this progresses now that he has killed two of the people he blames for the death of his family. He is also now armed with the name of a demon that took part in his family’s demise, so it should be getting pretty intense.

Watching Nick beg for Lucifer to come back was quite intense. Can you imagine being in such a state where that seems to be your only option? I sure can’t. But, I can see why it would be for him. He lost everything he loved and Lucifer gave him the escape he needed to keep from feeling that. I’m looking forward to seeing who exactly responded to his desperate pleas. I hope it’s Lucifer, because as you may remember, I haven’t been convinced he is gone forever.

We were introduced to Serge in this episode as well, a healer that Ketch had suggested may be the only one to help Jack in his time of need. I am not too sure I trust Serge, but I do like him regardless. I’m sure we will see in future episodes which side Serge is really on. But given the reaction Jack had to the cure Serge suggested, I can say I am not too sure he is on the same side as Sam and Dean.

I was very happy to see my favorite witch came back in this episode. I always love when Rowena makes an appearance. But in true Rowena fashion, she was quite hesitant to help Jack considering who his father is. But with her history with Lucifer I can’t say I blame her. And honestly, I think she was right, because I mentioned, I am not sure Serge is to be trusted. Who is to say the grace he had given them really was from Gabriel. What if it in fact was from Lucifer instead? It could very well had been an insurance policy Lucifer had set up just in case he were to be killed. I mean, it is Lucifer we are talking about and he is always 10 steps ahead of everyone.

I am quite looking forward to seeing how this all plays out this season. I know I shouldn’t be team Lucifer, but it is kind of hard not to like the guy. He has some of the best one liners in the show and brings most of the entertainment in terms of the plot. So here is hoping my hunch is right and we will once again see my favorite fallen angel make his return.
